    An Overview of Porcelain Crowns

Today all ceramic or full porcelain crowns are considered the most beautiful crown that a tooth can get. Porcelain is a kind of ceramic built by firing and stacking, and ceramic refers to porcelain only. Pure porcelain is the only crown which gives the desired translucent look to the tooth.

    Advantages of These Crowns

    • Transparent and true to nature and aesthetically appealing
    • No allergic reactions and highly biocompatible and reduced sensitivity
    • Alignment and form correction is possible
    • Ideally suitable for patients who have reduced space inside their mouth and are looking for that natural-looking tooth

    How Porcelain Crowns Works?

The procedure for the fitting of these crowns is similar to that of any other crown: The tooth to be treated is cleaned, reshaped, and thus prepared for treatment. The tooth is also tapered a little so that the crown can fit snugly on top of the concerned tooth. With the help of dental putty, an impression of the tooth is taken. The mould is then sent to the laboratory for fabrication of the new crown. In the meantime, the patient gets a temporary crown fitted on the tooth. A period of two to three weeks is required for the crown to be prepared. Then the patient’s tooth is fitted with the new crown. For this, Dr. Joseph Levy roughs up the surface of the affected tooth with the help of etching acid, which enables the crown to hold on to the tooth. After the desired fitting is obtained, the crown is firmly fixed with the help of dental cement. Care must be taken to avoid grinding, biting into hard foodstuffs and clenching.

    All-Porcelain Crowns

Teeth that cannot be saved with a simple filling must receive a dental crown. Porcelain crowns are the most popular type of dental crown which fits snugly over an existing tooth, providing aesthetic beauty while protecting the remaining tooth material from decay. Like porcelain veneers, dental crowns are made from high-quality porcelain, which gives your teeth a healthy glow, mirroring how your natural teeth react to sunlight. In fact, most people won’t even know you’ve had work done.

Because of their versatility, porcelain crowns can be used to solve many problems. If your tooth is broken or if you feel that it can’t withstand normal wear and tear or it is extremely worn out, a porcelain crown can be the ideal solution for you.

Why Go for a Full Porcelain Crown?

Full porcelain crowns are better than porcelain fused to metal/gold crowns, as they better mirror the natural look of teeth. So if you are in need of better aesthetics and if your tooth is strong enough to compromise on strength, a full porcelain crown is a perfect fit to your need. A porcelain crown is suitable for supporting a tooth that has gone through a large filling needing replacement or dental implants. Porcelain crowns can be used to aesthetically lighten your teeth, narrow gaps and reduce crowding of your mouth.
